A machining supplier cannot choose 6061-T651 or 7075-T651 from a part name, photograph or unfinished RFQ. The released 2D drawing must identify the customer-approved alloy and temper before quotation and production.
YSBK accepts machining RFQs for customer-specified 6061-T6/T651 and 7075-T6/T651 parts. YSBK reviews manufacturability and order-specific material availability after receiving the approved drawing and matching STEP or other suitable 3D CAD file.
This guide addresses one purchasing decision: how to release and quote the selected aluminum grade without allowing an uncontrolled substitution. It does not rank the alloys or replace the customer's engineering review.
The customer remains responsible for material selection and design validation. YSBK does not authorize a material change or infer missing requirements.
The Short Answer
| | |
6061-T651 is already approved | Keep the released callout | Submit the drawing revision, matching CAD file, quantity, finish and certification requirements. |
7075-T651 is already approved | Keep the released callout | Submit the drawing revision, matching CAD file, quantity, finish and certification requirements. |
The drawing says only aluminum | | Ask the customer's engineering team to approve the complete alloy, temper and governing specification. |
Two material options must be quoted | Create two controlled options | Keep geometry, drawing revision, quantity, finish and inspection scope aligned, and identify the material for each option. |
The final material choice must come from the customer's engineering requirements. YSBK can review manufacturability, order-specific availability and RFQ completeness after receiving the released drawing and matching CAD model; YSBK does not select the alloy for the application.
RFQ Checklist for CNC Machined Brackets
For each part number, submit the following information in one controlled RFQ package:
Approved 2D engineering drawing with part number and current revision.
Matching STEP or another suitable 3D CAD file.
Complete customer-approved material grade and temper, not only aluminum.
Required quantity for each part number; request separate quantity breaks only when genuinely needed.
Governing material specification and certificate or traceability requirement.
Critical dimensions, datums, tolerances, threads and assembly interfaces.
Surface finish, coating, anodizing, masking and any dimensions that apply after finishing.
Required inspection records, first-part evidence or dimensional report scope.
Written statement that material substitution requires customer approval.
A Practical Decision Sequence Before Drawing Release
Confirm whether static strength, fatigue, stiffness, welding, corrosion, finish, weight or certification is controlling the design.
Use the customer’s engineering calculation and applicable standard to approve the material and temper.
Confirm the required stock form and temper. Do not treat plate, extrusion, forging or another temper as interchangeable.
Write the full alloy, temper and governing specification on the released 2D drawing.
Resolve finish, masking, inspection, certificate and substitution requirements before quotation.
Submit the approved drawing and matching STEP/CAD file for YSBK manufacturing review.
What YSBK Can and Cannot Confirm
| |
Whether customer-specified 6061-T6/T651 or 7075-T6/T651 can be sourced and machined for the submitted geometry. | Which alloy is safe or optimal for the customer’s application. |
Whether the drawing and CAD model contain enough information for quotation. | Customer load cases, fatigue life, safety factors or regulatory compliance. |
Tool access, workholding, machining sequence, finish coordination and requested inspection scope. | Unstated critical requirements inferred from a photograph, sample or generic description. |
Order-specific availability and manufacturing feasibility after file review. | Material or temper substitution without written customer approval. |
Request a Low-Volume Aluminum Bracket Review
Submit for review. Send the approved 2D drawing and matching STEP/CAD file. Include the part number and revision, quantity, complete alloy and temper, governing material specification, critical tolerances, finish requirements, inspection records and material-certificate or traceability requirements.
Buyer Questions
Can YSBK choose 6061-T651 or 7075-T651 for my bracket
No. YSBK can review manufacturability and order-specific availability of the customer-specified material, but the customer must approve the alloy, temper and governing specification based on the design requirements.
Can I request quotations for both material variants
Yes, if each variant is clearly controlled. Identify the material callout for each quotation option and keep the drawing revision, geometry, finish, inspection scope and quantity consistent so the comparison is meaningful. Availability must still be confirmed during review.
Can YSBK approve a change from 6061-T651 to 7075-T651
No. A material change must be approved by the customer's engineering team and released through the controlled drawing or written change process before quotation or production.
Can T6 and T651 be used interchangeably
Do not assume so. Temper and stock form are controlled requirements. Quote and manufacture the material shown on the approved drawing, and do not substitute without written customer approval.
Scope and Limitations
This guide covers RFQ control and YSBK manufacturing review for customer-specified 6061-T6/T651 and 7075-T6/T651 parts. It does not provide structural calculations, design allowables or a material recommendation. Actual quotation and manufacturing feasibility depend on the released drawing, matching CAD file, material callout, stock availability, quantity, geometry, finish, inspection scope and documentation requirements.
YSBK accepts customer-specified 6061-T6/T651 and 7075-T6/T651 machining RFQs. YSBK does not select the material for the customer's application or substitute the approved grade or temper without written approval.
